HBC PRESENTS DEFEND THESE HANDS WITH ME - ONLINE

Back by popular demand, and as a follow up to her recent online course on declarer play, HBC instructor and game director Laurie Robbins will present a new six week course, Defend These Hands With Me, on Wednesday evenings. Lessons will be held online using Shark Bridge.

Dates: Wednesdays, April 27 through June 8

Time: 7 pm to 9 pm

Target audience: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate (Less than 500 MPs)

Course details:

The program will focus on some of the key principles of defense, against both no trump and suit contracts. There will be examples and exercises designed to enable course participants to apply these principles in challenging settings. At the end of the program, participants will be able to approach defensive play in a more thoughtful, confident and consistent manner. Much less agonizing about what to lead at trick 1, and which cards to play/keep as the hand develops!

Topics include the following

April 27:  Discards and keeping parity

May 4:  Opening Leads: Honor leads against No Trump contracts

May 11:  Second hand low/third hand high (with exceptions)

May 18:
RESCHEDULED TO 6/8

May 25:  Giving (and observing) count

June 1:  Suit preference signals

June 8:  When (and when not) to cover an honor with an honor

Participant Cost: $15 per session, or $80 for all six sessions

Laurie will present the sessions using Shark Bridge- a globally recognized online teaching platform, featured in the ACBL Bulletin and used by experts such as the Grossacks and Adam Parrish.  Using Shark Bridge, ALL participants will play the same hands and benefit from the learning experience.

For some of the lessons, you will be required to play with a human partner, against a robot declarer. You can either make arrangements with a partner ahead of time, or a partner will be assigned to you. It's a great opportunity for you and your regular partner(s) to learn and practice together!  For one or two of the lessons, it will make more sense to defend with a robot partner.  Laurie will let you know ahead of time, so you can plan ahead.

For those unfamiliar with Shark Bridge, we will hold a FREE warm up session on Sunday, April 24 at 2pm. If you would like to attend this session, please send an email to Laurie at  stephen.robbins@snet.net, with a copy to tcreeves77@gmail.com. Laurie will send you a link to access the session. It is as easy as one click!
