Minutes

Present: Carole Amaio, Hoby Littlefield, Lou Brown, Bill Watson, Joan Salve, Larry Wallowitz, Marylin Noll, Tom Gerchman, Partab Makhijani, Linda Starr, Valerie Orefice and Donna Feir, Club Manager

Guest: Pat Salve

Carole Amaio spoke for the HBC Board of Directors and the members in expressing the condolences of the entire membership to Donna Feir on the death of her daughter, Carole L:ittman.

Secretary’s Report:: Accepted.

Treasurer’s Report:  Accepted.

Manager’s Report:

1. The December table count was down 60 tables due to inclement weather.

2. The current membership is 428 members.

3. Sue Segal is directing the Wednesday novice evening class in Bob Bencker’s absence.     Average attendance is 8 or 9 tables..

Old Business:

1. At last year’s February, 2007 Cromwell Tournament two baskets with Connecticut   products were assembled by Sue Seckinger and raffled. The Board appropriated $100.00 dollars to do the same this year. discussion;

2. Nancy Krech has suggested the Bridge Club adopt a more eco – friendly attitude by recycling all supplies that are recyclable. Hoby Littlefield has volunteered to coordinate this project. Members will be informed how to assist.

3. A report on the planning for HBC Day at the Boston Nationals in November, 2008 included the following planning:
      a. Promotional material to highlight and recognize HBC
      b. A video presentation prepared by Paul Tungatt
      c. Historical HBC information prepared by Joy Bacce
      d. Table handouts such as game giveaways for non members
      e. The receipt of two HBC banners from ACBL for display at two tables HBC will feature
       f.  There is a $4000.00 budget allotted by the Board.

4. Pat Salve reported on the long range planning for HBC. The major issue his committee will consider is what steps would need to be taken when the lease ends as planned or sooner.

New Business:

The Thursday afternoon novice game directed by Dixie and Donna has attracted some non novice players who either teach or play or both with the novices. Their presence is disturbing for some of the novices. After discussion it was decided to have Donna and Dixie draft a policy as to this issue and bring it to the Board for resolution.
